Help us share the story.
Help us locate ephemera from the Soviet Jewry movement that remain in private collections. Many activists, during the period of 1963 to 1991 worked out of their own homes, so this material might be found tucked away in a home office, basement, attic, or garage. The Soviet Jewry Movement Education Project (SJMEP) is working to identify such activism collections and guide them to appropriate archival locations.
SJMEP is not an archive. SJMEP is a virtual hub with a website designed to link to relevant material that is located in historical centers and archives across North America and beyond. SJMEP’s goal is to make the history of the movement easily accessible from one online location. As collections are identified and processed, SJMEP’s virtual hub will grow.
Once you contact SJMEP about possible historical materials that document the grassroots Soviet Jewry movement, we will contact you to further discuss.
The records of this powerful movement must not be lost to history.
Please help us locate these records.
Please help us fund the digitization of this material.
Please note: It is the responsibility of the donor of materials to identify possible sensitive information that is contained in these materials.
Every document, photograph, and recording we save is a piece of a story that belongs to all of us. Your gift of time, materials, or financial support helps us find these records, digitize them, and turn them into lessons for the next generation of Jewish students, so they know what ordinary people can do when they refuse to look away.
Thank you to everyone who has already given. You are the reason these stories are still being told. If you’d like to join them, we’d be grateful to have you with us. SJMEP is a 501(c)(3) organization (EIN 88-2912629), and gifts are tax-deductible as provided by law.
